The NoseBudd Story
Few people have been forced to meet the challenges Steve Riedle has. Many of those who have struggle with resentment and discouragement; but not Steve. He has risen above his genetic disorder and discovered that coping with a disability does not mean giving up on a productive life.
Diagnosed with severe hemophilia - a blood clotting disorder - as a child, three of his brothers died from the disease he has successfully fended off for 40 years. But Steve is not content to only be known as a survivor, he wants to actively participate in making the lives of people with his disorder better. And with his NoseBudd invention, Steve has done just that. Steve’s disability may have left him unable to work, but not to think, design and innovate.
While shoveling snow at his family’s home several years ago, he developed a nosebleed. Not wanting to go inside, he formed a snowball around his nose and noticed how quickly the bleeding stopped. The seed that would grow into the NoseBudd product had been planted.
Steve began working on a design for a reusable gel-filled product that hemophiliacs could easily grab from their freezer and apply to their noses during a bleeding episode. With the product patented and properly trademarked, Steve was ready in 2005 to take the product to market.
